Halmstad University is now seeking an Assistant Professor in Production Technology for the Academy of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Sustainability.

Responsibilities

For the area of production technology with a focus on functional surfaces, we are looking for an Assistant Professor for the Department of Engineering & Innovation. The university has several research projects that connect the fields of materials, functional surfaces, manufacturing, and production, and we are seeking an Assistant Professor with broad experience related to these areas. The Assistant Professor position is a four-year appointment, which includes responsibilities in research (50% of the position), education, and collaboration. The goal is for this position to lead to fulfilling the requirements for promotion to Associate Professor.

The research responsibilities will be carried out both independently and in collaboration with other members of the research group for functional surfaces at the Academy and partners from industry and the public sector. This may include conducting research on functional surfaces, circular material use in digital manufacturing, project management, and other tasks related to research work. There are expectations that the applicant will contribute to obtaining external funding to strengthen research in the area. The industry, both internationally and nationally, envisions increasingly adopting digital manufacturing technologies such as additive manufacturing (AM).

A challenge in the implementation of AM lies in the area of quality assurance and the connection to functional properties and manufacturing control. Quality assurance of surface topography is a recognized research area at the Academy, and the applicant is expected to work on developing techniques and strategies for quality control of production using AM.

The teaching responsibilities include teaching and developing courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in subjects such as experimental design, material selection, production systems, intelligent production and automation, production and production organization, advanced materials and manufacturing technology, as well as the development and operation of e-learning in the future's digitalized manufacturing. Supervision of theses at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels is also included. If applicable, administrative duties may arise.

Part of a teacher's responsibilities is to follow developments in their own subject area and societal developments that are relevant to the work.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree or reached equivalent competence within five years prior to the application for the Assistant Professor position will be considered. However, those who have obtained their doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. (HF Chapter 4, Section 4a) For further information, see the university's employment regulations.

The Assistant Professor position is a merit-based appointment according to Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance. The appointment period is four years.

Requirements

Doctoral degree in production technology or another relevant area for the nature of the tasks
Previous research in additive manufacturing as well as surface topography and product quality

Meritorious

Publications in internationally recognized scientific journals
Publications on additive manufacturing and surface structure
Experience in knowledge transfer to industry regarding the use of digital tools for manufacturing processes.
Experience in research in collaboration with industry and multidisciplinary groups
Experience in teaching and developing education relevant to the area.
Experience in supervision at an advanced level
Very good ability to speak and write in English

Promotion to Associate Professor

To be promoted to Associate Professor, eligibility for Associate Professor must be fulfilled according to Halmstad University's Employment Regulations (point 4.7).

The assessment of qualifications regarding scientific competence, pedagogical competence, leadership, administrative competence, and collaboration with the surrounding society is specified in the Guidelines for Recruitment and Promotion (pp. 14 - 19). Among other things, this means a requirement for at least 15 higher education pedagogical credits.

To be promoted to Associate Professor, the applicant must have acquired good knowledge of Swedish and contributed to obtaining external funding. It is also required, together with the research group, to have co-published research results in established international peer-reviewed journals in the field (an average of 1 article/year), as well as having presented research at international conferences. Furthermore, demonstrated ability to contribute to the development and renewal of the operations is required.
